When I was a kid the family legend was that my fathers Uncle Seth played for Spurs. Years later I decided to se if that was actually true.
The short answer was no.
The long answer is that while he grew up in Tottenham, he actually played for Charlton Athletic. However in 1923, Seth Plum played for England against France and won Charlton's first ever England cap.
A bit more googling revealed that the actual cap was on display in the museum at The Valley. Which is only open on match days and Friday afternoons.
So one Friday I had the day off work with nothing better to do, so along with my wife, I travelled across London to se the ancestral hat.
The guy in the museum were brilliant & even took the cap out of the case & let me hold it. They were so nice in fact that I decided to come along to a match.
So I looked up where the noisy fans were (apparently somewhere called "The Covered End") and bought a ticket to see Charlton Vs Blackpool on September 21st 2024.
I had such a great time I went again... and again becoming a semi regular supporter throughout the season, ending in the League 1 playoff final at Wembley, which we won.
